Happy Bike Month!

May is National Bike Month! An annual celebration of the joy of bikes. Remember that feeling as a child when you would ride? The simple joy of freedom and independence of carefree riding as you rode! A lot of people recaptured that feeling in the last two years enjoying being outside and there is no better place to enjoy riding a bike than along Route 1 of the Great Lake to Lake Trail.

Here's what you can do during Bike Month:

  • Ride a mile on Route 1! Check out the map for the nearest Route 1 trailhead near you, then go out and enjoy the freedom of riding and not worrying about traffic or distracted drivers!

  • Register for the Michigander Bike Tour on Route 1! Celebrate 30 years of the Michigander as it crosses Michigan on it's first destination trail - Route 1!

  • Register for the Table To Table Bike & Brew Ride. Celebrate National Trails Day with a first-of-its-kind event on THREE Oakland County Trails, presented by American Cycle and Fitness. Enjoy some fine craft beer and food, and get to know the developing trail network across the county.

  • Join the Kal-Haven Trailblazer on May 7 in Kalamazoo. See the Rides & Tours page for more info and links.

  • The League of American Bicyclists has kicked off their National Bike Challenge where you can ride, log miles and even win prizes!

  • Join a Ride of Silence event on May 18 near Route 1 in Battle Creek, Jackson, & Kalamazoo. Other Michigan locations include Benton Harbor, Cadillac, Detroit,Grand Blanc, Lansing, Muskegon, Plymouth, Spring Lake, Traverse City, Union City.
